About this course
The course develops digital skills for common business administration work. Participants create and format documents such as letters, minutes and flyers in Word, including tables, images, graphics and mail merge. They also produce PowerPoint presentations using layouts, charts, organisational charts, templates, transitions and animations. Excel is used to enter, calculate, format and analyse business data, including formulas, functions, charts and basic pivot tables. In Access, participants work with databases, tables, forms, queries and reports, including importing data and linking an Excel file. Teaching is step by step, with learners working independently and with others on set tasks, supported by individual guidance.
What you'll learn
- Create and format business documents containing text, tables, images and graphics, using tools such as mail merge.
- Produce and modify PowerPoint presentations using slide layouts, designs, charts, organisational charts, transitions and animation effects.
- Use Excel formulas, functions, charts and basic pivot tables to process and present business data.
- Analyse business data in Excel to make calculations and identify patterns and trends.
- Create and modify Access tables, forms, queries and reports, including extracting data using specified criteria.
- Import data into Access and link an Excel file within a database.
Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for intermediate learners who are confident computer users with good file management skills and familiarity with Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Participants work both independently and with other students on office-based tasks, with some work required outside class.
- Previous familiarity with Word, PowerPoint and Excel is expected.
- The course includes both individual and collaborative tasks.
- Learners need to complete work outside class using Google Classroom resources.
Before you go
- The course is taught using Windows because Microsoft Access is not supported on iOS or Apple computers.
- Learners need to bring a pen, A4 paper and a folder for their work.
- Digital handouts and class resources are provided through Google Classroom.
