The course examines the practical foundations of setting up a creative business or arts practice. It considers routes into self-employment, freelance work, commissions and workshops, alongside the possibility of combining employment with a creative business. Participants explore business planning, sources of support, identifying markets and promoting creative work or services. The course also introduces legal and tax considerations, costing, pricing and payment. It includes a talk from a recently self-employed arts, design or lens-based start-up.
