Cabinet Making and Restoration Saturdays

About this course

The workshop introduces woodworking and restoration through a combination of group and individual demonstrations, discussions, set exercises and project work. Participants explore joints, construction methods, hand tools, power tools and workshop machines while developing their own design or restoration project. Machine use is decided by the lecturer according to each learner’s experience. Beginners develop foundational techniques before progressing to a personal project, while more experienced participants can extend their existing skills. Progress is reviewed through feedback on project work, a Learning Journal and an Individual Learning Plan.

Is this course right for you?

The course welcomes complete beginners as well as learners with some woodworking experience. Participants should be able to follow verbal instructions and be prepared to develop an individual project through a mix of group teaching, individual guidance and independent project work.

• Beginners are expected to bring a project idea they wish to develop
• Learners with existing experience can extend their skills through a project
• Some project preparation and study is expected outside class

Before you go

• Participants are responsible for the cost and sourcing of materials for their personal project.
• Bring a pencil and paper.
• Older clothes and stout shoes are requested; an apron may be worn if desired.
• Support with literacy, numeracy, English for speakers of other languages, learning difficulties and disabilities is available through the provider’s support programmes.
