About this course
The course introduces the history of illumination and the process of developing a decorated letter from an initial outline through to gilding and painting. Participants will plan and organise a design, apply gold using a flat gilding technique on a PVA mordant, and work with gouache. Teaching combines group and individual demonstrations with examples and worksheets, allowing learners to develop at their own pace. More advanced participants can extend their work by incorporating an illuminated letter into text, adapting letterforms or undertaking a self-directed project.
