About this course

The workshop develops advanced cello technique through scales, arpeggios, studies and work on vibrato, shifting, higher positions, chords, string crossing and bow control. Participants work on solo repertoire and ensemble music from different periods and styles, while extending their reading across bass, tenor and treble clefs. Teaching includes tutor demonstrations, group playing and short individual masterclass-style sessions within the class. Feedback from the tutor and other learners, along with shared resources through Google Classroom, supports work on musical structure, style and practice discipline.

What you'll learn

  • Develop facility in neck positions, thumb position and work above thumb position
  • Apply vibrato, shifting, chord playing and varied bowing techniques
  • Improve tone production, articulation and control during string crossing
  • Read and play fluently in bass, tenor and treble clefs
  • Perform selected solo and ensemble repertoire from different periods and styles
  • Use structured practice methods, including metronome work, while responding to musical structure and style
