About this course
The course introduces the principles and practice of teaching English to adult learners. It covers learners and teaching contexts, language analysis, the four language skills, lesson planning, resource selection and professional teaching practice. Learning combines tutor demonstrations, role-play, group work and observation of real teaching scenarios. Participants complete marked assignments and a portfolio, as well as being assessed through observations of their own teaching practice.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for adults with little or no previous teaching experience who want to teach English to adult learners. The Beginner level label indicates an introductory course level, although applicants need a solid understanding of English grammar and pronunciation and must meet the stated English qualifications.
- Applicants must be at least 19 on 31 August before the course starts
- A successful interview is required for enrolment
- The course is intensive and involves substantial independent study and lesson preparation
- Native and non-native English speakers have different stated English qualification requirements
Before you go
- Applicants must complete an application form and pre-interview task.
- Native English speakers need at least GCSE English grade C/4 or above; non-native speakers need Grade A Cambridge First Certificate (CPE) or IELTS grade 7.
- Learners are advised to allow at least 10 hours per week outside class for study and lesson preparation.
- Assessment includes marked assignments, portfolio completion and observations of teaching practice.
