About this course

The course introduces saggar firing as an alternative electric-kiln process, covering the stages from constructing a clay saggar to preparing and finishing fired pieces. Participants make a saggar and suitable objects, then test firing approaches and combustible materials that can affect surface colour and texture. Teaching combines a PowerPoint explanation with practical experimentation. Participants work with natural colourants, metals, oxides and carbonates, and learn how to prepare and load a saggar while following relevant health and safety guidance.

• Bring any pottery tools available, although tools can be used on the course and beginners' packs are available to buy.
