Ceramics Handbuilding and Throwing – All Levels (Eve)

About this course

Participants explore several ways of shaping clay, including pinching, soft slab building and throwing, then select techniques suited to their own projects. The course is practical and includes personalised feedback from the tutor. Learning is organised through a Personal Learning Plan, regular progress discussions and written records of studio practice. Participants can document materials, decorative methods, glazes, firing temperatures and the approximate dimensions of their work.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for adult learners across all levels, including beginners who want to explore both handbuilding and throwing. Participants work on their own projects while receiving individual feedback and discussing progress with the tutor. Learners must be aged 19 or over on 31 August before the course starts.

Before you go

• Clay must be purchased from the college shop. Slip, glazes and kiln firings are included in the clay cost.
• Ceramic tools are provided.
• Learners glazing work require an FFP3 mask, available from the technicians' office.
• Learners are encouraged to use a sketchbook or digital record, including photographs where appropriate.
• No food or drink is allowed in the studio, and learners should allow 15 minutes at the end of each class for tidying.
