Ceramics Summer School

About this course

Learners develop a ceramic project from research and design through to construction and finishing. They may follow a provided brief or create an individual brief, drawing on contemporary and historical ceramics for inspiration. The course covers intermediate and advanced construction techniques, including handbuilding and wheel throwing, alongside surface treatments, decoration and glazing. Teaching combines independent studio work with regular tutor feedback. Learners review their individual progress and progression with the tutor at the end of the course.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners who have already developed substantial ceramics experience, including those with a good Level 2 and/or Level 3 ceramics qualification or equivalent. Participation is self-directed, with regular tutor feedback.

• Not suitable for beginners.
• Learners should be prepared to develop an individual project with substantial independent work.

Before you go

• Decoration and glaze materials are included.
• Clay used before the first firing is charged by weight.
