About this course
Participants learn the main stages of wheel throwing, from preparing and centring clay to forming vessels and refining them through turning. The course focuses on making mugs and bowls, with additional instruction in handles and footrings. Teaching combines demonstrations, guided practice, personalised feedback and regular progress discussions. Learners create a Personal Learning Plan with the tutor, while a later glazing session provides an opportunity to finish work made during the course.

- Shape basic vessels using wheel-throwing techniques
- Turn thrown forms to refine their shape and finish
- Add handles and footrings to suitable ceramic forms

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for beginners and does not require previous knowledge. Some clay experience may be useful but is not essential. Participation includes individual guidance, regular tutor feedback and group progress discussions at the start of each day.

- Progress is reviewed both individually and in a group

- Materials are obtained through the college, and firing is arranged through the course; further details are provided at the first class.
- Participants should allow time at the end of each class to clean and tidy their workspace.
- Food and drink are not permitted in the studio.
