About this course

The course examines the history and development of Sino-African relations, with examples including South Africa, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola. It considers how diplomatic and defence relations, politics and ideology intersect with trade, manufacturing, energy, raw materials, fishing, and the commerce of legal and illegal goods. Teaching is mainly through lectures, group discussions, scenarios and case studies. Participants will explore the establishment of major trade routes, the significance of political and ideological factors, and the effects of licit and illicit trade.
