About this course

The course introduces the foundations of Chinese pole through strength-building calisthenics and progressive work on the apparatus. Participants begin with basic techniques such as climbs, then work towards more demanding positions and movements, including resting positions, slides and drops. Teaching starts from the fundamentals and can lead to Level 2 when the teachers consider a learner ready.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for absolute beginners or learners with limited circus experience. Although no previous circus experience is identified as necessary, participants should have a good level of overall fitness and upper-body strength. The course involves progressive physical work on specialist circus equipment.

Before you go

  • Wear clothing that covers the arms and legs, such as old stretchy or fitted jeans, leggings, tights or a long-sleeved T-shirt.
  • Bring two pairs of suitable trousers and one or two spare long-sleeved jumpers, as clothing may become ripped.
  • Bring plimsolls or soft-sole trainers. Shoes are provided, but participants may need to use their own if the available size is unsuitable.
