About this course

The class studies choral music from classical, folk, pop and musical theatre traditions, with occasional sacred repertoire. Each session combines vocal warm-ups, breathing and basic vocal technique with rehearsal of new music. Learners work on individual voice parts before bringing them together, addressing difficult passages and exploring interpretation through musical lines and dynamics. Rehearsals are supported by a professional accompanist, recordings and backing tracks. Some music is read from scores, while notes are also taught during rehearsals.

What you'll learn

  • Perform simple two- and three-part harmonies
  • Apply basic vocal technique and breathing exercises
  • Recognise choral repertoire from several musical genres
  • Explain some basic principles of how the voice works
