About this course

The course covers network fundamentals, LAN switching, routing, infrastructure services and infrastructure maintenance across three Cisco CCNA modules: Introduction to Networks; Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials; and Enterprise Networking, Security, and Automation. Teaching combines presentations, exercises and hands-on laboratory work with independent study. Assessment includes weekly chapter tests, theory tests for each module and a practical skills examination. The course prepares learners for the relevant internal module assessments and the externally arranged CCNA examination.

What you'll learn

  • Explain core network fundamentals and infrastructure concepts
  • Configure and manage elements of small and medium-sized routed networks using Cisco devices
  • Apply LAN switching and routing technologies in practical exercises
  • Describe infrastructure services, security considerations and network maintenance processes
  • Demonstrate networking knowledge through theory tests and a practical skills assessment

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improver-level learners preparing for networking or IT support roles, including people entering the IT industry or changing careers. A good general knowledge of IT is advised, alongside literacy, numeracy and the ability to study independently. Entry is subject to tutor approval.

  • Learners should be able to manage independent reading and practical study alongside taught sessions.
  • The course may suit people already working in IT infrastructure or networking who are seeking the current CCNA standard.
  • Late applications are considered case by case for prepared learners able to work independently and align with the assessment schedule.

Before you go

  • Learners should allow at least 4 to 6 hours per week for independent reading and practical study.
  • The external CCNA examination is arranged and paid for by the learner at a Pearson Vue testing centre.
  • A discount voucher for the external examination may be available after successful completion of the final exam.
