About this course

Participants work collaboratively through the rehearsal process for a traditional production of Cinderella, combining acting, song, dance and audience participation. Teaching is based on practical rehearsal under the direction of the director and theatre manager, with collaboration across the cast, stage management and technical theatre teams. The course examines how a production is developed from initial rehearsal to performance, including script analysis, communication, feedback, note-taking and professional etiquette during technical and dress rehearsals. Learners also contribute to character development and the realisation of the director’s concept.

What you'll learn

  • Apply script-reading and analysis to identify meaning and clarity
  • Communicate clearly, listen actively and respond to constructive feedback
  • Develop a character within a collaborative rehearsal and production process
  • Apply rehearsal work to realise a director’s concept in performance
  • Work appropriately with stage management and other production teams

Is this course right for you?

This advanced course is intended for performers ready to work as part of an ensemble under professional expectations. Entry is by audition, with applicants asked to prepare a comic speech and a musical theatre song. Full commitment, cooperative working, deadline management and substantial preparation outside sessions are expected.

  • Requires attendance at all scheduled sessions and production commitments
  • Includes rigorous physical activity
  • Involves considerable work outside the taught sessions

Before you go

  • For the audition, applicants should prepare a comic speech from a 21st-century play and a musical theatre song, and bring a hard copy of the song’s piano accompaniment.
  • Applicants should provide a headshot with their application.
  • Props and costume are covered by the production budget. Participants may supplement these with personal wardrobe items or props at their own risk; personal items should be labelled and taken home after the final performance.
