About this course

The course develops clarinet technique through work on breathing, articulation, fingering and tone, alongside more complex rhythmic notation and aural and theoretical study. Learners explore repertoire from early music, classical, jazz and popular styles, including material around Grade 3/4 standard. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with guided group playing, individual playing, solo and duet arrangements, and ensemble work in three or four parts. Class discussions and regular practice outside sessions form part of the learning process.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for clarinettists with at least two years of playing experience who are comfortable reading music at around Grade 3 level and have some simple improvisation experience. Learners need to play all notes up to top C, follow written and spoken instructions in English, take part in discussions and practise regularly outside class.
