Feedback is provided throughout, alongside technical support materials and digital tools where appropriate. Health and safety inductions are included before learners use machinery or specialist equipment.

  • Apply advanced machine-sewing techniques to seams and garment components
  • Use advanced hand-sewing techniques for garment construction
  • Work with advanced and specialist fabrics for seams and garment components

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for experienced sewists working at an advanced level. Learners should have completed two or more intermediate courses at Morley College or have equivalent experience, including making garments in stable fabrics, setting collars and sleeves, and producing clean-finished seams. Fluent English is required.

  • Suitable for learners who can accurately thread and operate a sewing machine on a range of fabrics
  • Requires experience with techniques such as overlocking, French seams or flat-felled seams
  • Classes may involve standing at high tables for periods of time

Before you go

  • Learners need to bring a sewing kit, pattern-cutting equipment, stationery and an A4 folder for samples and notes.
  • Specialist fabrics must be provided by the learner or purchased through the tutor; calico is available at cost price.
  • A health and safety induction must be completed before using machinery or specialist equipment.
  • Some activities use sewing machines with foot-operated speed controls.
  • The fashion studios are on the first floor, with lift access. Learners should tell the tutor if standing at high tables may be difficult.
