About this course

The course develops garment-making skills through machine and overlocker sewing, pattern preparation and hand-finishing techniques. Participants examine paper patterns and suitable fabrics, then practise laying out, pinning and cutting fabric before working on sample seams and finishes. Teaching includes tutor feedback and advice, alongside self-assessment and homework. Depending on individual ability, participants may also make a simple garment during the course.

• Distinguish between paper pattern types and select suitable fabric
• Interpret a paper pattern and prepare fabric for cutting
• Produce sample seams and hand-sewn finishes

Is this course right for you?

The course is labelled All Levels and is intended for learners with different levels of sewing ability. Participation combines practical sewing activities with tutor feedback, self-assessment and homework. The amount of garment-making completed may depend on individual ability.
