About this course
Learners begin by identifying sewing-machine parts, threading the machine, adjusting tension and practising straight seams and zigzag stitches. Guided practical work then applies these techniques to a small accessory project, such as a cushion cover, tote bag or zipped pencil case. The course progresses to a simple garment project and introduces the structure and basic construction stages of commercial sewing patterns. Teaching includes practical sessions, observation, questions and answers, and work produced using specialist classroom facilities.
