Combine Print Techniques – Photo Litho and Silkscreen

About this course

The course introduces silkscreen printing through tutor demonstrations, discussion of print examples and guided experiments. Participants will prepare screens, use leaves, found shapes, torn and cut paper stencils, and combine colours through mono printing and overprinting. They will review initial prints before developing more complex designs and learning to register screens for precise layering. After covering the core techniques, participants can apply them to a personal project with design guidance and one-to-one tutorials. Group discussion provides opportunities to share printmaking experience with other learners.

Before you go

• Bring pencils, a small paintbrush, a sketchbook or notebook, and papers or fabrics for printing.
• Basic materials supplied include screens, squeegees, ink binder, a starter pack of paper and one piece of screen mesh.
• Any other specific materials must be provided by the learner.
• Protective clothing and rubber gloves are advisable.
• Health and safety procedures are explained during the course. Some chemicals may be harmful in pregnancy or cause irritation, so learners should inform the tutor about pregnancy or sensitivities.
• The studio does not have vacuum suction beds. Individual silkscreens are secured to hinged boards on work benches.
