About this course

Sessions combine group music-making with listening, demonstration, discussion and individual practice. Songs in popular and traditional styles are mainly taught by ear, with work on holding vocal lines and harmony parts within choir arrangements. Rehearsals address accurate pitching, rhythm, lyric communication and vocal technique through warm-ups, breathing and tone-production exercises. Learners are introduced to rehearsal techniques and can use supporting online materials. Practical activities are accompanied by ongoing verbal and written feedback, with opportunities to perform in college concerts.

What you'll learn

• Maintain a vocal line, including harmony parts, within a choir arrangement.
• Pitch notes accurately and sing different rhythms in time.

• Communicate the meaning of a song through its lyrics.

Is this course right for you?

With an Improver label, the course is intended for people developing beyond the fundamentals of singing, particularly those with some singing or choir experience. It centres on group singing and performance, although no audition is required. Music reading is not needed because songs are mainly taught by ear, and some practice between sessions is recommended.
