An online Level 3 course covering community interpreting practice, public-service terminology, professional responsibilities and portfolio-based assessment.

About this course

The course examines the community interpreter’s role across public services, including health, education, benefits, housing and immigration. Participants study specialist terminology, research relevant public-service and healthcare issues, and consider the responsibilities of confidentiality and impartiality. Role-play activities are used to practise interpreting and making appropriate interventions. Assessment is portfolio-based rather than exam-based. Learners complete eight written assignments and a final role-play, with work undertaken both during lessons and independently. Successful completion provides four recognised OCN Level 3 community interpreting units.
