Contemporary dance: from studio to stage (improvers)

About this course

The course focuses on adapting contemporary dance practice for performance. Learners take part in technique work, creative tasks and rehearsals while learning and refining choreography for staged shows. Sessions address focus, musical timing, spatial awareness, use of space, awareness of other dancers and projection. Rehearsal work includes dancing through set material, responding to feedback and developing consistency, control, stamina and clarity across group formations and run-throughs.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improver-level contemporary dancers with prior experience who want to work on performance and rehearsal skills. Performing in the shows is not compulsory, but all learners are expected to learn the choreography. Those who perform will take part in additional practice.
