Contemporary printmaking studio: focus on colour

About this course

The course develops intermediate printmaking practice through research, project planning and experimentation with colour. Learners work with intaglio colour techniques, multi-plate printing, advanced aquatint, hybrid prints and printing onto different substrates, while developing their own ideas and images. Teaching combines demonstrations, illustrated talks, written instructions, examples of print media, practical application and individual and group guidance. Informal reviews of work in progress support the development of personal print projects, including the use of inking, wiping and registration techniques.

• Create plates or blocks with a range of materials and tools, and prepare paper for printing

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for intermediate or experienced printmakers, including those with recent printmaking experience who want to extend their practice or continue an existing project. Participation combines individual project development with demonstrations, group guidance and reviews. Learners should be able to follow written and verbal instructions in English for safety and procedures, take short notes and make simple measurements.

Before you go

• Most materials are included, including inks, chemicals, tools, proofing paper and an allocation of printing plates or blocks.
• Bring sketches, photographs or other visual resources as a starting point.
• Learners are strongly encouraged to bring previously worked plates or blocks they want to develop further.
