About this course

Participants develop short watercolour projects from observation, secondary sources and abstraction. The course explores brush handling, paper and surface choices, accompanying media, and the characteristics of different pigments, alongside themes and approaches drawn from contemporary artists. Teaching combines studio practice with demonstrations, handouts, one-to-one tutoring and group discussion. Course materials, presentations and handouts are also available through Google Classroom.

Is this course right for you?

This intermediate course is intended for learners with some basic painting experience in any medium. It involves practical studio work, demonstrations, one-to-one tutoring and group discussions, as well as following written and verbal guidance.

  • Some previous painting experience is expected
  • Painting experience may be in any medium
  • Participation includes group discussion and individual tutor feedback

Before you go

  • Basic watercolour paint, brushes and suitable paper are provided.
  • Participants may bring additional specialist materials if they wish.
