About this course

Participants develop collage projects using torn and cut paper, hand-painted textures, found and recycled objects, photographs, newspapers and magazines. The course considers composition, symbolism, colour, tone and texture, alongside expressionistic and representational approaches. It also introduces the work of other collage artists and shows how to digitise and print collages using an iPad. Learning takes place through practical activities, tutor guidance, individual verbal feedback and discussions, with a personal learning plan used to focus goals and track progress.

What you'll learn

  • Combine collage with painting, drawing and printing techniques
  • Create imagery from found, recycled, painted and printed elements
  • Experiment with torn and cut paper, colour, texture and tone
  • Apply basic principles of composition, themes and symbolism
  • Digitise and print collage work using an iPad
  • Develop collage ideas into more extensive projects
