Creative Enamelling

About this course

Participants will create three to four enamel samples while exploring the effects of colour, light and metallic detail. The workshop focuses on preparing enamels for wet laying, applying fine gold and silver foil and leaf, and building layered surfaces beneath transparent enamels. Teaching combines demonstrations with guided practice. Each stage is shown before participants try it themselves, with individual guidance available during the making process. The session also includes an introduction to sample pieces and historical influences, plus informal opportunities to share progress and discuss techniques with other participants.

Is this course right for you?

The workshop is designed for learners at all levels, including beginners and experienced jewellers. Participation combines demonstrations, individual practical work and one-to-one guidance, with some informal group discussion and shared experimentation.

Before you go

• Participants should bring a scalpel knife, small fine scissors, a fine paintbrush and an apron.
• Reading glasses, plus a notebook and pen for optional note-taking, may also be brought.
• Wear casual clothing that can tolerate dust or damage, avoiding long loose sleeves. Flat, closed shoes are required, and long hair should be tied back.
• Essential tools and materials other than the listed items are provided.
• Most of the workshop is at street level in a step-free showroom. Some specialist equipment is in a lower-level workshop accessible only by stairs, with no lift; access requirements can be discussed in advance.
