About this course
Participants follow the stages of making a garment of their choice from a commercial pattern, using their own measurements to make straightforward adjustments for fit. The course covers fabric cutting and handling, pattern layouts, stitch and seam types, garment assembly, simple fastenings and pressing techniques. Learning takes place at each participant’s own pace, with stitched samples forming a personal reference library for future projects. Some work is set outside the classroom to reinforce the techniques covered.

- Measure the body and use a commercial sewing pattern
- Apply simple pattern adjustments to improve garment fit
- Cut and prepare fabric accurately using appropriate pattern layouts
- Select and use suitable stitches, seams and basic fastenings
- Construct a garment through staged assembly and finishing
- Create a reference library of stitched samples for future clothesmaking projects
Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for Beginner (A1) learners and explicitly welcomes people with no previous experience. Participants work through garment construction at their own pace, combining classroom practice with some study outside class. The repeat pathway also allows learners to revisit the course with tutor guidance to reinforce and consolidate techniques.
