About this course
Participants work through the main stages of film production, from developing a story idea and writing a script to storyboarding, planning and directing performers for the camera. Practical work covers shot types, camera movement, cinematography, lighting, sound recording and production management.
What you'll learn
- Develop a film proposal, script and storyboard for a short project
- Apply camera operation, shot composition and cinematography techniques
- Plan and direct scenes, including blocking performers for the camera
- Record and shape sound, design lighting and manage production activities
- Edit footage in Adobe Premiere Pro, including colour correction, sound design and exporting
- Complete and present a short film for screening and evaluation

The course is intended for beginners and for learners developing existing filmmaking skills. It involves a mix of individual tasks and collaborative production work, with participants expected to engage in group activities as well as work independently. An interest in storytelling and film production is recommended.
