About this course

Participants develop introductory skills in kiln-formed glass through practical studio work. The course covers cutting and assembling glass for fusing, working with different glass styles, making moulds, and understanding how glass changes in a kiln. It also introduces fusing, slumping, open-mould casting and lost wax casting. Teaching combines tutor guidance, personalised feedback and a Personal Learning Plan. Learners document and review their work through sketchbooks, workbooks, experimental pieces and final work, with informal group discussions rather than formal assessment.

What you'll learn

  • Cut and assemble glass for fusing.
  • Use different styles of glass in glass artworks.
  • Explain how glass transforms in a kiln.
  • Make a mould for glass casting.
  • Apply introductory fusing, slumping, open-mould casting and lost wax casting techniques.
