About this course

Participants develop an individual glass project from initial ideas through to finished work, with the tutor helping them set aims and plan their learning. The workshop covers fusing, slumping, casting, pâte de verre and finishing techniques, alongside discussion of how ideas can be translated into glass. Teaching combines practical studio work with individual guidance, group discussions and informal critiques. Progress is reviewed through observation and verbal feedback rather than formal assessment.

What you'll learn

  • Apply advanced kilnforming methods including fusing, slumping, casting and pâte de verre
  • Develop a self-directed glass project from concept to finished piece
  • Use finishing techniques to complete kiln-formed glass work
  • Discuss design aims and evaluate work through individual and group feedback

Is this course right for you?

The workshop is intended for learners with some previous glass experience who want to develop kilnformed glass techniques and pursue their own ideas. The course involves self-directed project work, individual discussion with the tutor and participation in informal group critiques.

  • Designed for learners working beyond fundamental glass techniques
  • Participants set aims for an individual project
  • Group discussion and informal critique form part of the learning process

Before you go

  • Materials used on the course and firing are arranged through the college, with details provided at the first class.
  • Participants may bring their own glass, clay or wax, but there is no on-site storage for these items unless they are purchased from the college.
  • Food and drink are not permitted in the studio; a nearby hub area is available for snacks and drinks.
  • Participants should allow time at the end of the class to tidy the studio.
