About this course
The course places 1990s television within the decade’s historical, social, cultural and political context, examining how these forces shaped programming and its relationship with popular culture. Sessions consider genres including comedy, science fiction and crime, alongside the period’s visual aesthetics and the later cult status of selected programmes. Teaching combines tutor introductions with a full-episode screening each week. Discussion afterwards provides a framework for analysing the episode’s themes, concerns and connections with wider 1990s Britain.
