About this course

The course examines film history and the development of film form through selected films from different periods and national cinemas. Each screening is introduced by the tutor and followed by a discussion of the film, drawing on visual style, cinematic self-expression, spectatorship and theoretical approaches to film studies. The programme may include works such as La passion de Jeanne d’Arc, Umberto D, Billy Liar and Amour, although the final selection is subject to availability.
