Current Film and Theatre

About this course

The course examines a newly selected film or play at regular intervals, with learners choosing many of the works through a class vote. Screenings and theatre performances are followed by classroom analysis of the material, including its story, structure, direction, production and performance. Teaching combines tutor-led introductions and input with questions, answers, paired discussion and whole-group debate. Theatre visits may include opportunities to attend together and take part in question-and-answer sessions with members of the creative team.

Listed as suitable for all levels, the course is intended for learners with an interest or curiosity about film and theatre who are willing to discuss and debate their responses. Participants should be able to travel independently and commit to attending regular film and theatre performances.

• Theatre visits may be attended as a group, while films are attended independently
• Some films may be classified for viewers aged 18 and over
