Da Vinci Resolve video editing: stage 2

About this course

The course combines practical editing exercises with discussion of narrative construction and visual literacy. Learners work on strategies for developing a rough cut into a more refined edit, including workflow, transitions, effects and changes animated over time. It also covers title templates, text in film and screen direction. Activities use clips supplied by the tutor and focus on applying more advanced Resolve tools while developing a clearer understanding of how editing shapes a story.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners with some experience using Resolve who want to extend their editing skills and understanding. Computer skills and knowledge of Resolve are described as essential. Participants are expected to take part in class activities, with additional practice outside class encouraged.

• Time for editing practice outside class is likely to be useful

Before you go

• Access to the editing software and Apple Macs is provided during the course.
• Clips for the exercises are supplied by the tutor.
• A notebook may be useful for recording ideas and techniques.
• A memory stick or portable hard drive may be useful for storing work. PC-formatted drives can be read by Apple Macs but not written to.
• Course handouts and other resources are available through Google Classroom.
• Learners may wish to read additional books about filmmaking and editing.
