Develop your sewing skills: using an overlocker and industrial machine

About this course

Participants learn how overlockers and industrial sewing machines differ from domestic machines and when each is used. Guided exercises cover threading and adjusting the machines, working with different fabrics, and producing seams, hems and other finishes. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical tasks and individual tutor guidance. Informal assessment and feedback are built into the activities, with learners developing their ability to identify and resolve stitch and tension problems.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners with some sewing experience who are confident using a domestic sewing machine and want to progress to professional equipment. The Improver level indicates a step beyond fundamental sewing skills, with participation centred on practical studio exercises and guided tasks.
