Developing Ceramic Skills: Surface Treatments (Intermediate-Advanced Level)

About this course

Learners develop an individual project brief and use research, design development and studio practice to produce a final ceramic piece. The course covers handbuilding and/or wheel throwing alongside surface treatments such as slips, oxides, grogs, inclusions, texture and glaze, informed by contemporary and historical ceramics. Teaching is tutor-led but self-directed, with regular feedback on progress. Learners review their development with the tutor at the end of the course.

• Use a range of surface treatments, decoration methods and glazes
• Construct and complete a final project with appropriate surface treatment

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for learners working beyond beginner level who have already achieved a good Level 2 and/or Level 3 qualification in Ceramics, or an equivalent. Participation is largely self-directed, with regular tutor feedback and an individual project focus.
