Developing Guitar Skills

About this course

The course covers core guitar skills through demonstrations, guided practice and individual tutor feedback. Beginner content includes notation, tablature, chord diagrams, strumming patterns, open and barre chords, chord extensions, fingerpicking and songs using these techniques. Improver material adds rhythm and lead-guitar tablature, more advanced strumming, CAGED and altered chords, plus plectrum techniques such as bends, slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs and muting. Learners practise individually and in groups, with weekly exercises and song assignments leading to a final performance.
