About this course

The course develops illustration through work with line, tone, colour, texture, shape, pattern, composition and layout. Participants will explore dry and wet media, collage and digital processes, and consider how illustration is used across print and digital applications. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign are introduced alongside research into historical and contemporary movements and styles. Teaching combines presentations, demonstrations, practical work, individual and group tutoring, and group discussion. Learners will develop illustrations in response to briefs and reflect on their work.

Is this course right for you?

The course is described as intermediate and is intended for learners who have completed an introductory illustration course or have equivalent knowledge and experience. Participation includes practical work, group discussions, and individual and group tutoring. Learners may also be given extension activities to complete outside class.

  • English-language competency is needed to follow instructions, demonstrations and health and safety information.
  • Additional tasks may be set for completion outside course hours.

Before you go

  • Basic materials and resources are available as part of the course.
  • Learners are advised to bring an A5 or A4 sketchbook for recording ideas.
  • An A3 folder and/or USB drive is advised for transporting work.
  • Any additional materials required will be discussed during the course.
