Developing personal printmaking projects

About this course

The course introduces beginners to lino printing, drypoint, collograph and etching through demonstrations, test plates and guided experimentation. Learners develop images from sketches, photographs or other personal sources, while applying different processes to their own ideas. Those with intermediate or advanced experience can pursue self-directed projects with guidance, continue refining imagery and explore techniques such as photo etching and multi-plate printing. The course also covers safe and effective use of the printmaking studio, tools and materials.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners at all levels. Beginners follow step-by-step introductions and make test plates, while those with previous experience can develop self-directed projects with guidance. Learners should be able to follow written and verbal English instructions for health and safety and printmaking procedures. Basic drawing skills would be an advantage.

Before you go

• Basic materials, including inks, standard-quality paper and general communal workshop sundries, are covered by the course fee.
• A limited amount of zinc etching plate can be purchased at cost during the course.
• Learners should bring sketches, photographs or other visual resources as a starting point.
