About this course
Learners work with Word to create and format documents, Excel to process numerical data, and digital tools to edit images and create presentations. The course also covers online safety, privacy, secure online transactions, device maintenance, digital wellbeing, information searching, file organisation, cloud backups, troubleshooting and online learning resources. Teaching combines classroom activities using work-related material with group and pair work, one-to-one support, project work, careers advice and revision for knowledge and skills tests.
What you'll learn
- Create and format documents using text, tables, graphics and charts in Word.
- Enter, sort, filter, format and analyse numerical data in Excel using formulae and charts.
- Edit and enhance digital images.
- Apply methods for protecting privacy, managing online identity and using online services securely.
- Organise, store and retrieve digital information using files, folders, tagging and cloud backups.
- Evaluate online information and troubleshoot common technical problems using available help resources.
Is this course right for you?
The course is designed for learners aged over 19 who do not already hold Level 1 IT skills and are developing foundational digital abilities. Applicants complete an initial IT skills test, and need English at approximately Level 1 equivalent to follow technical instructions, communicate with the tutor and contribute to discussions.
- The initial IT skills assessment score should be between 1.0 and 1.9.
- Teaching includes group work, pair work and one-to-one support.
- Learners take five controlled assessments covering knowledge and practical skills.
Before you go
- Five controlled assessments must be attended, with a final pass mark required.
- Students may access a free Microsoft 365 licence by becoming an RHACC student.
