Draw and Paint: Personal Projects (Saturdays)

About this course

The course develops drawing and painting through observation, including work from the model, with attention to composition, form, colour, tone, proportion, perspective, light and mark making. Participants explore inks, oils, acrylics and mixed media, including techniques for mixing warm and cool colours. New members follow an introductory drawing and painting programme during the first 6–8 weeks, while advanced learners continue personal projects in their chosen media. Teaching includes regular demonstrations, whole-group discussion, detailed feedback and one-to-one tutor assessment.

Is this course right for you?

The class is intended for intermediate and advanced learners, with some drawing or painting experience recommended. Learners new to the group begin with an introductory programme, while advanced participants develop existing project work and personal interests. Sessions combine individual work with group discussion and one-to-one assessment.

• New group members follow introductory work for the first 6–8 weeks

Before you go

• The studio is accessible only by stairs and has no lift access.
• Participants must bring their own materials, including paints, pastels, charcoal, soft pencils, erasers, an A5 or A4 sketchbook, drawing-board clips and/or masking tape. Paper is provided.
• For the first session, bring two 4/5B pencils and thick charcoal sticks.
• A face protector should be brought and worn. Hand sanitiser is provided at the entrance.
• Participants are required to wipe down their chair, easel and table before leaving, using the disinfectant spray and paper towel provided.
