Drawing and Painting: figure into landscape

An all-levels studio course developing drawing and painting through portraiture, landscape and cityscape projects, demonstrations and guided practice.
About this course
The course moves from portraiture to landscape and cityscape, using clothed-model studies, observational exercises and, weather permitting, outdoor work. Learners explore proportion, tonal values, perspective, composition and colour through drawing and painting activities, progressing from preliminary studies to more developed views and paintings. Teaching combines demonstrations, individual guidance, tutor feedback, group discussion and presentations about historical and contemporary artists. Learners use measuring techniques, viewfinders and sketchbook studies to plan work, while experimenting with different media, painting methods and approaches to interpreting a subject.
