Drawing: focus on space and depth

About this course

The course examines how the picture plane can be manipulated to suggest form, position and depth. Participants work with tonal contrasts, light direction, perspective, overlapping, foreshortening, scale and detail to distinguish foreground from background and create pictorial illusions. Teaching combines explanations, demonstrations and visual examples with practical guidance. Learners receive individual support and take part in group discussions related to the drawing exercises.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners as well as people with some drawing experience. Basic drawing skills may be helpful but are not essential, and fundamental approaches and materials are demonstrated during the course. Participation includes practical work, individual guidance and group discussion.
