About this course

The course examines objects and images made across different cultures and historical periods, considering how they might inform drawing in the present. Participants use these references as starting points for their own work, with studio access to easels, drawing boards, charcoal, newsprint, masking tape, cartridge paper and watercolour paper. Learners may also bring additional materials for personal use, such as pencils, pastels, ink pens or a sketchbook.

What you'll learn

  • Examine examples of visual culture from different places and periods
  • Identify ways that existing images and objects can inform a drawing
  • Make drawings in response to visual and historical references

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for artists, creatives and image-makers at all levels, including beginners. The all-levels label indicates that participants with different degrees of drawing experience can take part, while the course centres on looking at visual references and developing individual drawings from them.
