About this course

Participants develop a series of drawing projects, allowing time to test different approaches and refine their image-making. The course examines observation, expression, composition and abstraction, alongside examples of contemporary and historical drawing. Teaching combines presentations, demonstrations, group discussion and individual or small-group guidance. Most class time is spent drawing, with projects able to continue between sessions either onsite or remotely.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improvers who have some drawing experience, such as previous attendance at a beginners’ class. It combines sustained individual drawing with tutor guidance, presentations and group discussions. Projects may be developed onsite or from home using the course’s online communication tools.

  • Some prior drawing experience is expected, although there are no formal entry requirements
  • Suitable for learners able to work on projects over more than one session
  • Available for onsite or online participation

Before you go

  • A sketchbook is required.
  • Online learners need their own art materials, a device with internet access and a camera, and must install Teams before the first class.
  • Basic materials are provided for onsite learners; learners may alternatively bring their own.
  • Protective clothing, such as an old shirt or apron, is advised.
  • The onsite classroom is accessible by stairs and lift.
