Drawing, Painting and Watercolour - Beginners and Improvers

About this course

Participants develop artwork through a choice of guided project ideas spanning traditional, abstract and imaginative subjects. They research and plan in sketchbooks, explore artists and use the elements and principles of art, including line, colour, form, texture, balance, perspective and proportion, to shape their work. Teaching combines individual guidance, group discussion and peer support. Learners are encouraged to interpret project outlines independently, try different media and review completed work through critique, questions, research tasks and feedback.

Is this course right for you?

The course is open to learners regardless of ability or previous experience, with guidance adapted to individual starting points. Participation includes independent project development alongside individual tuition, group discussion, peer input, research, homework and critique of completed work.

• Work is reviewed through both individual and group discussion.

Before you go

• Bring an A3 paper pad, 100–140gsm.
• Bring a sketchbook.
• Bring an HB pencil, eraser or putty rubber, and sharpener.
• Bring a preferred choice of colour media.
• Bring masking tape.
