Drawing & Painting (Intermediate level)

About this course

The course develops drawing and painting together, using a different general theme each term. Participants may begin with drawing in media such as charcoal or collage before moving between drawing and painting, with the balance varying across the term. Oil paints receive particular attention, alongside exploration of materials and different approaches to making images. Slide presentations introduce the work of other artists, while regular group discussions provide opportunities to examine work and reflect on its development.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners with some previous drawing and painting experience. As an intermediate class, it is suited to those developing beyond fundamental techniques, while participants who are new to oil painting can receive additional input. Sessions include individual practical work alongside discussion and reflection with the group.

Before you go

• For the first session, bring charcoal, white chalk or Conté, pencils, erasers, hairspray or fixative, masking tape or clips, and kitchen towel.
