About this course

The course examines how drawing and sculpture can inform one another. Participants work with line, tone and mark-making alongside sculptural concerns such as mass, gesture, scale, form and balance. Writing is used to reflect on and develop ideas, while set parameters and restrictions encourage experimentation. Teaching combines studio practice with demonstrations, presentations, handouts, individual and group tutoring, and discussion. Participants also consider the work of other artists and practitioners and reflect on their own developing work.

What you'll learn

  • Produce drawings using pencil, charcoal and pastel
  • Create small sculptural forms using wire, rope, cardboard, chicken wire and Modroc
  • Develop rules or restrictions to advance an artistic idea
  • Examine relationships between drawing, writing and sculpture
  • Experiment with a range of materials
