About this course

The course develops hand and foot coordination for pop, rock, jazz and Latin drum kit playing. Learners work on timekeeping with and without a click or backing track, maintain a wider range of grooves, and apply music reading and previously studied concepts. Teaching combines verbal guidance, demonstrations, group and individual practice, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and performances in front of the class.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for improver-level players who have attended terms 1 and/or 2, or who have a basic understanding of specified subdivisions, drum kit grooves and music reading. Participation includes group and individual practice, discussion and performing in front of the class.

• A regular practice routine is described as essential for keeping up with the course
• Learners may be exposed to high volume levels during lessons

Before you go

• Participants must bring their own drumsticks.
• Access to a drum kit or practice pads is advisable.
• Earplugs are strongly encouraged because of potential high volume levels.
• As the course is delivered online, participants need a regularly accessible email address, a reliable internet connection and familiarity with basic video-conferencing software.
• An optional notepad and pen may be used.
